Biography
Fierce Deity is a solo project by Jonathon Barwick.
Heavy riffs and catchy melodies place the listener as "the traveller" in a musical universe inspired by iconic games, movies, and books, creating a lore all its own.
Jon formerly fronted Taberah, which evolved from high school lunchtime jams in the south of Tasmania into stalwarts of the Australian live metal scene.
Between 2006 and 2019, the band independently released three albums and shared the stage with Blind Guardian, Nightwish, Motörhead, Hammerfall, Municipal Waste, and Ripper Owens.
Jon moved on in 2019 when he decided to dedicate his life to the craft of music. Fierce Deity (named for his love of The Legend of Zelda) emerged as the path forward for his passion for heavy riffs and layered productions.
Fierce Deity released five singles between 2019 and 2020, now dubbed "The Trials."
2021 brought the debut album, "Power Wisdom Courage," which left a mark on underground blogs, earning 5-star and 10/10 ratings.
"A Dragon, Gold" served as a palette-cleansing single alongside a Fierce Deity take on the Randy Rhoads-era Ozzy Osbourne masterpiece, "Diary of a Madman."
Promotion for "A Terrible Fate" began with LEVIARAK in 2023, introducing the legendary arachnid as the antagonist for the album, which was released digitally in 2024 and independently pressed to physical in 2025.
In Jon's words:
"All of this has been possible because of the community support from The Temple. Without the travellers, I wouldn't have this time to spend on getting good at what I love. 🤙"
